The Center for Fine Art Photography brings the Month of Photography to Fort Collins. With an unprecedented four exhibitions all dipping into the month of March, the Center will feature more contemporary photography than ever before. Though the subjects and media are varied - from portraits to still life, digital to wet plate - the vitality of this spectrum will convince you that photography does not age gracefully but is reborn again and again.

February 4 - March 19, Main Gallery Reception March 4, 6 - 9PM Artists’ talk March 5, 1 - 2PM
An exhibition of photographs that explore the visual representation of a person, animal, place or thing. The featured works expand the traditional notion of “eyes front, smile” portraits, extending the concept to explore sense of place and personal experience. The 47 contributing artists represent an impressive constituency of local, national and international talent.
Noteworthy award winners in the mix include: Leo Mendonca, Juror’s Selection, Dorothy O’Connor, Director’s Selection and Samuel Moulin, Director’s Honorable Mention. The list of Juror’s Honorable Mentions is a lengthy testament to the high caliber of this show: Alan Wentworth, PD Rearick, Charles Rozier, Lanny Linehan, Klara Hanincova, Martin Gremm and Colorado’s own Alpen Badgett.
The images were selected by legendary photographer Rodney Smith. A student of Walker Evans at Yale in the 70s and today widely exhibited in major galleries the world over and collected by Rockefellers and rock stars alike - Smith continues the Center’s tradition for sourcing absolute excellence in exhibition jurors.

Featuring wet plate collodion and glass plate photographs by S. Gayle Stevens, Christopher Ray Perez, Mark Sink and Kristen Hatgi. From the intimacy of eye contact to an abstracted ambiguity of self, the selected images utilize the historic wet plate process – defying time and contemplating mortality.
S. Gayle Stevens has worked in antiquarian processes for over fifteen years, preferring the fluidity and individuality of wet plate collodion. Dubbed the “Alt Queen” by her students, Stevens teaches alternative photo processes at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn Illinois.
Christopher Ray Perez is a self-taught photographer who specializes in street style portraiture using the painstaking ambrotype process, resulting in honest but surreal imagery.
Mark Sink and Kristen Hatgi began their collaborative studies in wet plate collodion in the summer of 2008. The resultant mix of still life, portraits, nudes and landscapes is a romantic blend of the modern and the antique. Making a living from fine art photography since 1978, Sink is well known for his imagery made with the toy Diana camera. Widely collected and exhibited, he is represented by G. Ray Hawkins in CA, Robin Rice in NY, Rule Gallery in Denver. Kristen Hatgi (BFA 2008) has exhibited her photography locally and nationally. Inspired a decade ago by local teacher and collector Paul Harbaugh, Hatgi later came to work for Mark and Gallery Sink.
